The Character of Columbus Chess

By Seth Seward

Something wonderful happened today at our chess tournament that I never experienced. It was the third round and the participants started the games. One particular game had a student who was starting to feel sick. This game could have been easily forfeited due to the participant being sick… However! The participant’s opponent Isaac Meske offered a draw for each of them to have a half of point. This is amazing because he was having a bad tournament and EVERY point is crucial to get a trophy. I left to talk to Issac after the game. He and his family were crying tears of joy. We were all amazed by Isaac’s sportsmanship and strong character.

Issac is a fifth grader at Columbus Gifted Academy. I wanted to get a photo with him. He inspired me today!
