In the non-rated sections, notation is not required. Notation is required in the rated sections, though notation is optional for grade K-3 players, but a player may lose the right to make claims requiring a score sheet. Players in the rated sections are required to use a clock if either player provides one. In the non-rated section, players may use a clock if one player provides one and both players agree. In all sections, clocks will be used if games approach the time limit. Students in the rated sections are encouraged to bring their own clocks. Boards and pieces will be provided. Each player will play every round unless a bye is requested. Participants may request a half point bye for one round only, excluding the fifth round. Byes must be requested before the start of round 2.
